Report from BVI National Parks Trust: Moorings at Sandy Cay
Installation of moorings at Sandy Cay (one of the most popular “lunch stops” for visiting and bare boat charter yachts in the British Virgin Islands) has been actively discussed for a decade or more to protect the sparse coral outcroppings on the leeward sides of the Cay.
Let’s hope that maintenance of the new moorings is up to the challenge of the heavy traffic that the area receives on a year-round basis. We would be happy to pass on reports of problems with the moorings.

Hope things are well with you. I can gladly report that Sandy Cay now has 5 moorings, which were completely installed by the end of today. We will test how those moorings are utilized over the upcoming tourist season and monitor the degree of damage to its components. We will then proceed to install additional moorings next year to bring the total to 10. If you have any questions, please let me know.
