CCA/IRF Country Environmental Profiles for Eastern Caribbean States On-Line at USAID
We have just learned via some researching by Kevel Lindsay, that USAID has digitized six of the seven Country Environmental Profiles for the Eastern Caribbean countries of Antigua-Barbuda, Dominica, St. Lucia, St.Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada, and an EC-wide synthesis document that Judith Towle wrote. Jim Harold of USAID’s Development Experience Clearinghouse says that the program will also be converting the St. Kitts-Nevis report this week.
In addition, there are reports or related documents (e.g., scoping studies) for other countries, such as Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Haiti . [Additional reports by Island Resources Foundation for Anguilla, Montserrat and Jost van Dyke (BVI) will not be included in the Clearinghouse.]
These copies are text searchable .PDFs, which makes them very useful for searching and copying short sections.
[Additional information about the Country Environmental Profiles produced by IRF and CCA can be found on our web site at http://www.irf.org/collection-and-site-search-tools/ — these documents were scanned directly from the IRF library and are in somewhat better condition than the scanned documents in the USAID archive. The archive, however, will also lead one to added references documenting the administrative background of the US Government’s Environmental Profile program.
The IRF search will also provide direct access to additional profiles, including especially the four major island environmental profiles produced for the British Virgin Islands. bp]
The instructions for generating the USAID Eastern Caribbean profile search list, provided by Jim Harold of USAID are:
There are total of 15 country environmental profile documents in this series that are Caribbean-related.
If you go to the our website (that’s http://dec.usaid.gov ) and choose the “Advanced Search” option, enter “country environmental profile” in the “Title” box and then choose “Caribbean” in the “Country/Region” box. Finally, hit the “Submit” button.
