Environmental News Bulletin. . . . a great service

Posted on November 14, 2007

The Canadian environmental Non-governmental Organization IISD (International Institute for Sustainable Development) has a division (ENB — I think that means Environmental News Bulletin) that only writes up reports about what goes on at all of these big international environmental meetings of the various UN agencies and big treaty organizations like the Law of the Sea, or the up-coming International Panel on Climate Change.ENB is headed by Kimo Goree, who has a blog at // . Here’s Kimo’s description of the qualifications to become a reporter for ENB:

. . . our minimum qualifications that they have a Ph.D. or be in a Ph.D. program, or have an LL.M. in international environmental law, or five years negotiating experience, plus speak two UN languages fluently and have published academic works in the areas that we follow.

Just for the record, the ENB accounts of the conferences and meetings that they cover are among the best journalism I know. There are times when they are unable to eliminate all of the mind-numbing gobbledegook that gets spouted at some of these meetings, but when you finish reading an ENB account, at least you know what was said, and often, why. Sign up for the IISD Reporting Services for the daily web coverage from the Twenty-seventh session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change currently underway in Valencia, Spain
