Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 8 p.m., andSunday, November 18 at 12:30 a.m.
This series is also distributed through the BBC, so a google search may show it on a TV near you.Hunted to the brink of extinction, the sperm whale is one of the least known of the great whales. This film follows filmmaker Rick Rosenthal’s modern-day quest for a legendary white sperm whale — novelist Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. Not only does Rosenthal find the magnificent beast, but on his travels across the world’s oceans he also uncovers the secret lives of these 60-foot, 30-ton ocean giants.The first third of this show takes place off the coast of Dominica in the West Indies, which is a major calving and nursery area for female sperm whales and their calves.
